Principles

The Dutch research universities follow a number of general principles in their international cooperation:

  • International cooperation is embedded in the core tasks of the Dutch research universities (viz. to provide education, conduct research and transfer knowledge).
  • The Dutch research universities encourage the integration of education, research and innovation, at all levels from fundamental to applied research.
  • The Dutch research universities guarantee and stimulate freedom of speech and academic freedom.
  • The Dutch research universities contribute to sustainable growth and development in general, and to the realisation of the Millennium Development Goals for the fight against poverty in particular.

The Dutch research universities endorse the following declarations and codes in their international cooperation:

  • Magna Carta of University (Bologna, 18 September 1988)
  • World declaration on higher education for the twenty-first century: vision and action (New York, 9 October 1998)
  • Declaration on Academic Freedom and Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education (New York, 10 September 1988)
  • Code of conduct for the international student in the Dutch higher education system
  • Code of conduct for university integrity
  • IAU-AUCC-ACE statement on sharing quality higher education across borders
  • Code of conduct for market activities
