Code for Transparency in Animal Testing

The purpose of the Code for Transparency in Animal Testing is to support the dialogue about animal testing between society and researchers. The signatories of this Code, the KNAW, NFU and VSNU, want to contribute in this way to more transparency in animal testing: a wish broadly supported by society. Institutions respond to this wish by writing annual reports about animal testing for the general public, designing websites and/or organising lectures and visits. These forms of response are described in the Code, and the signatories promise that they will strive to provide them.

The Dutch universities understand the concerns in politics and society with regard to the use of test animals in scientific research; they are therefore working towards the reduction, refinement and replacement of animal tests. However, the use of test animals remains necessary in many areas of science in order to achieve scientific and medical breakthroughs for both humans and animals.

The Code for Transparency in Animal Testing is not available in English.
