Erasmus+ is the European Union's new education programme that runs until the end of 2020. The VSNU (Association of Universities in the Netherlands) represents the interests of Dutch universities during the implementation and policy development regarding interim adjustments to the programme. The VSNU also ensures that the Dutch knowledge community can prepare for the new opportunities that this programme offers.
Erasmus+ unites a wide range of programmes for various education sectors. For example, the following are included in Erasmus+ :
- Erasmus Mundus
- Erasmus grant programme
The EU wants to achieve greater coherence and modernise itsgrants. Administrative costs are expected to reduce as a result. The aim of the programme is to boost student mobility and promote collaboration between institutions and the business sector. The Erasmus+ budget is €14 billion total for the period 2014-2020. That is nearly one and a half times the budget of the previous long-term education programme.
