Willemijn Dicke (b. 1970) is head of the International Department. She advises on international issues at the VSNU, including the international exchange of academics, international student intake, and attracting and maintaining top talent from abroad in sectors with labour shortages. She also focuses on European programmes for education, research and regional investments. Willemijn holds discussions on members’ behalf with national government agencies as well as European institutions to inform and guide the relevant parties where possible and necessary. She is additionally responsible for actively informing members about international developments, such as the consequences of Brexit for Dutch universities.
Willemijn studied Political Science at Radboud University Nijmegen. She earned her PhD from the same faculty there as well, and subsequently embarked on an academic career at Delft University of Technology and the Scientific Council for Government Policy (WRR). While working as an Associate Professor, Willemijn decided to trade academia for management and became secretary general of the IDEA League: a partnership of five technical universities in Europe.
